What do carpet beetles look like?

Length: Around 2 to 4mm long.

Body shape: Round shape with six legs and antennae, there are a couple of different types.

Colour: They can come a variety of colours: orange, black or with a white speckled appearance.

Larve: Also known as ‘woolly bear’, light brown in appearance and covered in short bristles – up to 5mm. They are often described as small, furry caterpillars in appearance

Where do carpet beetles come from?

Like many pest, carpet beetles can gain access to your home from a number of sources such as your shopping bags, pet fur, flowers and clothing. Adults can fly through open doors and windows, laying eggs on furniture, rugs and carpets.

How to identify a carpet beetle infestation

If you don’t clean regularly, carpet beetles can go unnoticed for long periods of time.  Adult beetle are usually the first sign, gathering around windows and lights. You may also catch larvae crawling on surfaces but the most likely sign you will notice is the damage left behind and their shed skins.
